Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
Search engine marketing, better known as SEM involves marketing products and services through the use of a search engine. SEM contains two parts, SEO and PPC. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the practice of generating websites that are effective enough to appear organically through search engines. PPC, or Pay Per Click is a strategy in which web designers purchase clicks from search engines. Both strategies lead with the purpose of getting the website seen, which is the most effective marketing strategy one can have.
PageRank
PageRank is an algorithm used by Google. Its purpose is to estimate the relevance and importance of pages around the web. To break it down picture Page #1 and Page #2, there is a link between Page #1 and Page #2. The algorithm interprets this as a vote of trust, existing between the two pages. The more links to a page, the more likely that it is important.
Backlink
Backlinks have also been referred to as inlinks or just “links.” Backlinks are basically just hyperlinks on other websites that point back to your own website. SEO is directly affected by backlinks because they directly correlate with the PageRank of a web page; ultimately influencing its search rankings and likeliness of being seen by viewers.
